Privacy

What Fade.fm keeps about you, what it does with it, and nothing it doesn’t.

  • You can use Fade.fm without an account. The app, the demos and any link someone sends you work signed out; your work stays in your own browser until you save it.
  • An account is an email address. It exists so your saved songs, links and Pro status follow you between devices.
  • Fade.fm keeps what you make, for as long as you keep it, plus routine backups for 30 days.
  • Fade.fm counts visits without cookies and never sells or shares your data with advertisers.

What Fade.fm stores

Your account: your email address, a password if you set one, the display name you choose, and whether you have a Pro subscription. Signing in by emailed code stores the code only until it is used or expires.

Your work: the songs you save, the links you publish, the samples you upload and the presets you keep, together with when they were made and changed. A published link’s page shows your display name and the song, as the Licensing page describes.

Payments: Pro is billed by Stripe. Fade.fm keeps your Stripe customer id and your subscription’s status; it never sees or stores your card.

Jams: while a jam is open, the edits made in it pass through Fade.fm’s servers to the other people in the room. Nothing from a jam is kept once the room closes, apart from what you save.

What stays on your device

An unsaved song, your settings and the samples you have loaded live in your browser’s own storage on that device. Fade.fm cannot read them from anywhere else, and clearing the browser’s site data removes them.

Visit counts

Fade.fm counts page views and a handful of in-app events, such as a link being opened. It uses no cookies and keeps no identifier that could pick you out of the count; it records the page, a coarse country and the kind of device.

Fade.fm sits behind Cloudflare, which sees the requests it passes on, as any such service does, and keeps its own short-lived logs for abuse protection.

Who else sees anything

Nobody, apart from the services named here that make Fade.fm work: the hosting provider, Cloudflare, Stripe for Pro, and the email service that delivers sign-in codes. Fade.fm does not sell data, does not share it with advertisers, and does not build profiles of you.

Keeping and deleting

Your work stays until you delete it. Deleting a song removes it from Fade.fm at once and from routine backups within 30 days. Deleting your account removes your email, your songs and your links the same way. Copies other people already made under a published link’s licence are theirs, as the Licensing page explains.
